A Call for Guest Circus Artists

Circus acrobats

In September, 2022, Stanford Live will host a touring circus ensemble to create a project in which youth, student and adult performers from the Bay Area will join the touring company for a rehearsal process and two performances. We are seeking a variety of participants from the Stanford community with movement and/or athletic experience to join the project

Schedule

The rehearsal process will take place from September 6 – 29, 2022 culminating with two performances at Memorial Auditorium on September 30 and October 1.  Here is a tentative schedule:

  • Morning weekday rehearsals during the weeks of Sept 5, Sept 12, Sept 19 with the addition of longer Saturday rehearsals on September 10, 17 and 24 (exact schedules to be confirmed)
  • Week of Sept 26 (tech week):  Tech and dress rehearsals and performances each evening of this week (week 1 of Stanford classes).

About the project

The Brisbane, Australia-based company Circa comes from the progressive circus world. This work “Leviathan” is a special and ambitious undertaking requiring the sourcing of a local cast of 18 members to join the 18-member cast of Circa.  Each version of this piece is unique, owing to the guest performers and the community in which it takes place. The project has a structured rehearsal process in which guest performers can expect to contribute to the final form of the performance.  Yaron Lifschitz, artist director of Circa, created this piece for these divided times that we are living through in a vision of hope that celebrates what can be achieved when we work together.
