Celebrate Wellness Month with SURPAS & Recreation and Wellness

Welcome to the Month of Wellness! This month focuses on self-care, healthy routines and stress management. SURPAS & Stanford Recreation and Wellness are hosting a variety of events this August for postdocs & the recreational community at Stanford. From drop-in meditation to morning yoga, check out some of the upcoming events around campus.

Meditation: Managing Stress and Showing Up to Life

Have you tried to meditate but haven’t found a method that works for you? Do you enjoy meditation but struggle to practice on a regular basis? Are you curious about how a meditation practice could be supportive for you? In the midst of our many stressors, we can stress ourselves out trying to manage it all the “right” way. This workshop offers an exploration around what meditation might look like in your real life right now. Sarah will discuss the neuroscience of meditation, identify challenges and misconceptions, and explore several different ways to practice.

Dance for JOY | find HOPE in movement. Cardio Dance combines traditional aerobic routines with dance-based choreography including swing, salsa, hip-hop, modern, African and Jazz. No experience necessary, just a love of movement and upbeat music!

Kick start your day with this yoga flow class that moves through sun salutations, standing poses, balance poses, and seated stretches to get blood and energy moving throughout the body. We work on full-body strength and flexibility and focus on connecting movements to the breath. Open to all levels.

SURPAS Wellness Month Hike

Hosted by the SURPAS Sports Committee. Meet at 8:30 AM at the Stanford Oval (for carpools), and at 9:00 AM at the trailhead. All skills levels are encouraged to sign up; we will not limit our group size for this hike instead we will split into smaller groups to hike various distances: 3.6 miles>> | 8.2miles>>

Take a break and pet a friendly dog for relaxation and stress relief.

Restorative Yoga | Register here
Natalye Corcoran
Restorative Yoga allows your body and mind to find deep relaxation and restoration through gentle Yoga postures that are held for 3 to 8 minutes at a time. Postures are held with the aid of props without any strain on the body. Restorative Yoga helps to soothe the nervous system, correct poor posture, and relieve tension of deeper muscles that may not be targeted in a more active Yoga class. Open to all levels.
