SPOT Mountain Trips

The SPOT Mountain trips will take you out into the beautiful California wilderness for a five-day backpacking or base camping trip. We transport you to an amazing location in either the northern Sierras or Southern Cascades where you and your groups will be able to explore beautiful mountain lakes and hike up and be treated to scenic vistas.

Backpacking

  • Groups of 8-10
  • Led by Stanford Students
  • Backpack 4-7 miles a day
  • Swimming Alpine lakes
  • SPOT lights
  • Calzones on Camp Stoves
  • Stargazing
  • Possible locations:  Lassen National Park, Plumas National Forest, Donner Summit Backcountry

Sample Schedule

  • September 8: Arrive Stanford check in to SPOT, get to know your SPOT leaders and members of group, organize gear and food, Pizza party, camp on Roble Field
  • September 9: Depart campus early for your SPOT destination. Once you arrive your will set up camp and begin to form new friendships that will last your whole Stanford career
  • September 10: Hiking options for the day, SPOTlights
  • September 11: Get up early to watch sunrise from the top of a volcanic cinder cone, spend the afternoon by the mountain lake
  • September 12: Solo reflection time by a mountain lake, skits, songs, celebrate your last night in the mountains
  • September 13: Wake up early, board the buses back to Stanford. Shower and get ready for slide shown and Tostada party on Roble Field
  • September 14: NSO begins at 8:00 am. You will be escorted to your res. hall by your SPOT leader and ready to begin life at Stanford with 11 new SPOT friends.
